History:

The Piedmont Youth Orchestra was founded by Dorothy Alden, a violinist with the North Carolina Symphony. Originally named Chapel Hill Children's Orchestra, it rehearsed and performed on the campus of UNC-Chapel Hill with the goal of creating future musicians in the traditions
of the past. Some of the more famous PYO alumni are Dawn Hannay of the New York Philharmonic, Sandy Yamamoto of the Miró Quartet,
and Jennifer Curtis of the J Quartet.
